I thought I would take a moment to share some information on power supply testers.
Now I have a standard 20pin ATX power supply tester that will allow you to turn on the power supply to test the voltages.
The bad thing though is this will not always give you a clear reading if the power supply can handle a full PC load or not. I have found these types of power supply testers will give just enough load so that the power supply will be stable enough to turn on and check voltages and nothing more.
The bad thing about this is that you may use one of these to test to see if a power supply turns on and think it works ok and then turn around and find that when you put it into a system to use it that the power supply does in fact have a problem and can’t turn on with normal load.
