Raspberry Pi Raspbian command line ( CLI ) autologin

Will I just thought I would share some information for how to setup autologin on a specific tty device on the Raspberry Pi using the Raspbian distro of linux.

What you will need to do is:
sudo nano /etc/inittab
Then go through the file and look for the specific tty device you would like to add a specific user to autologin on.
Now normally I have my “pi” account autologin on the ttyAMA0 device. Give you a example of what the default line looks like in the file is as follows:
T0:23:respawn:/sbin/getty -L ttyAMA0 115200 vt100

Here is what it looks like after I changed it:
T0:23:respawn:/sbin/getty -a pi -L ttyAMA0 115200 vt100

So all you have to do is just add the “-a username”, without quotes, right after getty and making sure to keep a spaces between the users username and all other getty options.

Hopefully this has helped someone.
